Per an announcement, Adidas Originals has just added Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States to its list of partners.
Adidas Originals, a brand of the German sportswear clothing firm Adidas made this public in a tweet yesterday “We partnered with @Coinbase. Probably nothing.”
Although details of the partnership remain undefined, Coinbase was quick to confirm the partnership in a one-sentence welcome note on Twitter, “gm @adidasoriginals. Welcome to the party, partner!”
The brand may likely be working towards building a metaverse, as it dropped a hint on Twitter two days prior to the partnership announcement when it tweeted, “adiVerse, anyone?”
Efforts to get more explanation from Coinbase proved abortive as the exchange spokesperson refused to provide further information. However, he said “It is a very positive development to see more companies enter the cryptoeconomy. We look forward to seeing all of the opportunities for brands in this growing space.”
With this partnership with Coinbase, Adidas Original could be looking at the NFT sector, a potential area that the exchange offers dedicated services. You would recall that the brand made an NFT-related announcement with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence earlier this year.
If it eventually walks the path as guessed, it would not be the first to move in that direction, as several brands had already jumped into Nonfungible tokens. Back in August, an L.A-based digital fashion start-up, DressX stepped into NFT, through a partnership with the marketplace of the fastest-growing crypto exchange, Crypto.com, where it would release the digital version drop.
