Amazon has come out to dispel rumors that it could be set to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a payment option on its platform. This was revealed by a spokesperson of the multinational company who said the company was not yet ready to accept the digital asset.
The crypto community had reacted positively to the earlier news that the leading tech firm could be the next big US firm to accept crypto. It has, however, emerged that the basis of the report was false.
According to Amazon’s spokesperson:
Notwithstanding our interest in the space, the speculation that has ensued around our specific plans for cryptocurrencies is not true. We remain focused on exploring what this could look like for customers shopping on Amazon.
The price of Bitcoin and other digital assets rode on the highs of the news to reach new heights they haven’t reached in recent weeks. But since the Jeff Bezos led company’s new disclosure, the price of these assets have dropped; BTC lost around $2000 while Ethereum’s value also tanked.
