In July, Jack Dorsey said that the flagship crypto-asset, Bitcoin, could play a significant role in its app in the future. Interestingly, the news making the round today appears to signal his statement, as there are speculations that Twitter has added Bitcoin into its new Tip Jar feature.
According to a report from MacRumors, the social media site has added the option that would see its users be able to tip their favorite creators with the flagship digital asset through the Lightning Network that allows for Bitcoin payment.
“When the Tip Jar was first introduced, Twitter allowed users to add Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal and Venmo links to their Twitter profile, but soon, there will be a Bitcoin option. The addition of a Bitcoin tipping option comes after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey told investors in July that Bitcoin was important to the company and would be coming to the Tip Jar in the future,” part of the report reads.
The report continued that users looking to receive these tips would have to register with Strike as the application would be used to generate Bitcoin invoices.
Twitter is a leading social media site and its adoption of the digital asset would lead to a wider adoption and use of the asset. The social media site’s CEO, Jack Dorsey is known to be a vocal supporter of the crypto industry and has made a number of interventions into the space with the most recent being an attempt to bring Defi to BTC.
