The leading beverage brand, Coca-Cola, will be aiming to celebrate International friendship day with the creation of a custom NFT collection.
The aim is to send any proceeds obtained from the auction to further the efforts of the Special Olympics in their bid to assist adults and children battling with various forms of disabilities. According to Coca-Cola, the tokens would be available from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August for auction.
The beverage giant posits that the friendship boxes it would offer for auction would be made up of exciting digital merchandise such as bubble jackets which can be used in Decentraland, an ETH-based virtual reality world. The special NFTs would be available on the 2nd of August, 2021 on the OpenSea marketplace.
Coca-Cola is partnering with digital designer Tafi, who is coming up with a video game-like “Loot boxes” which would have special collectibles for eventual winners.
This custom NFT collection is Coca-Cola’s way of supporting the Special Olympics who have done a lot in alleviating the pains of those dealing with disability. Global Coca-Cola trademark president, Selman Careaga, remarked that it is the company’s way of identifying with those who have been critical to its business operations.
In his words, “Each NFT was created to celebrate elements that are core to the Coca-Cola brand reinterpreted for a virtual world in new and exciting ways.” He continued that the firm is “excited to share our first NFTs with the metaverse where new friendships are being forced in new ways in new worlds.”
