Craig Wright has won his case against Bitcoin.org. This is the world’s most popular Bitcoin information website and also host to the Bitcoin whitepaper. Wright, who calls himself the Bitcoin creator, had argued that by publishing the Bitcoin whitepaper, the website was infringing on his IP.
However, Craig did not win the case by proving that he is Satoshi, but rather because the defendant, an anonymous person named Cobra, refused to appear in court. Cobra refused to contest the case so as to protect anonymity. However, s/he has taken to Twitter to express displeasure with the judgment.
Cobra has stated that the court decision was indicative of the reason why the world needed Bitcoin in the first place. According to Cobra, the current justice system was skewed in favor of whoever has the most money. However, in a decentralized system, justice can easily be found through cryptography.
Cobra’s assertions allude to the fact that it was very easy for Craig Wright to prove that he was Satoshi Nakamoto if he was indeed the one. All he would have to do is move Bitcoin from Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallet. This would prove beyond reasonable doubt that he is Satoshi and end the debate for good.
Speculation has been ongoing for a decade now as to the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. Some of the most speculated individuals to be Satoshi Nakamoto are Hal Finney and Nick Szabo. Unfortunately, Hal died in 2014, further raising speculation that it was Satoshi, then the seed phrase to the one million Satoshi Bitcoins may be lost forever.
