After reports emerged that Dogecoin was the most mentioned crypto asset on leading social media site, Twitter. DealBook has now revealed that the meme coin would soon be accepted by one of the top NBA pro basketball teams, The Dallas Mavericks. This decision was largely swayed by its crypto-friendly owner, Mark Cuban.
According to Cuban, his team would soon accept DOGE as payment method for its tickets and merchandise and this decision was made simply for the fun of it. He added that “sometimes in business you have to do things that are fun.”
Dallas Mavericks has been accepting cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin since 2019 through BitPay. Mark Cuban has recently been discussing the potential the overall crypto industry holds and he has severally declared that prices of crypto assets would surge. He also recently highlighted that gold is dead as a store of value in a recent exchange with Peter Schiff.
Dogecoin Gaining Momentum
Dogecoin, which was created as a joke variation of Bitcoin has grown in leaps and bound since its inception. The crypto asset has enjoyed tremendous support from celebrities like Elon Musk and others, and it also was a recent subject of a massive surge in price which was pushed by a reddit sub-community /r/satoshistreetsbets.
Though the value of the coin has since corrected, it is however enjoying new level of adoption and support as can be seen with Dallas Mavericks recent foray and with CoinFlip enabling support for the asset on its ATMs.
