Mayor of Miami to Receive Bitcoin Salary

Francis Suarez, the mayor of Miami, has taken his support for crypto a step further, as he could become the first American politician to be paid in Bitcoin.

According to a tweet from the American politician, he would receive the entire of his next salaries in the flagship crypto-asset. This move also appears as a response to the question “who is going to be the first American politician to accept their salary in Bitcoin?” that was asked by Anthony Pompliano, a popular BTC influencer.

Francis Suarez wrote in the tweet and tagged an individual identified as Mike Masarati, a big name within the tech industry who could help achieve his aim. “I’m going to take my next paycheck 100% in bitcoin…problem solved! @Sarasti can you help?”

Information from Miami Herald shows he receives $187,500 as salary per annum, equivalent to nearly 3 BTC.

The 44-year-old since the beginning of the year has demonstrated a keen interest in crypto and has severally hailed BTC —in fact, he is a vocal supporter of the asset. Thus, with his position as the mayor of Miami, the crypto revolution in the State would only continue to grow.

Suarez recently declared BTC to be “the most secure, most decentralized blockchain on the planet.” He said the decentralized nature of Bitcoin with its no-ties with fiat system gives it much advantage; which, to him, is why developing nations have embraced it to revive their dying economy.
