Barely a week after Beeple’s art piece was sold for a record $69.3 million in the NFT marketplace, Sophia the Robot is set to become the first humanoid to produce crypto artwork amid the recent NFT craze, according to a recent joint statement by IV gallery and Hanson Robotics.
Sophia’s pieces, produced in collaboration with UK-based legendary painter Andrea Bonaceto, will be available on Gemini’s Nifty Gateway platform next week on March 23.
Sophia’s art was inspired by Bonaceto’s work, Dr. David Hanson, the founder, and lead robotist at Hanson Robotics said. The one-of-a-kind robot studied the legendary painter’s work and produced “her own” pieces by utilizing neural networks, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
Speaking to the media ahead of the drop, Bonaceto, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, expressed his excitement saying he had learned a lot from Sophia’s creative process. “The art pieces we created represent the overall creative process, from beginning to completion,” he said. “It’s exciting to see how Sophia responded to my work” he added.
Bonaceto has already produced several NFT artwork pieces, including portraits of Ethereum CEO Vitalik Buterin and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.
February saw an increase in NFT trading volume, which hit $342 million, according to DappRadar. The recent rush to obtain rare collectibles such as digital art, music and literature have caught the eyes of notable personalities and businesses, including musicians, NFL stars.
